Mexican Hat Cactus Nursery

Echinopsis page

In our opinion the cacti of choice for the beginner starting to grow cactus would be plants belonging to the Echinopsis family. This large group of plants that now includes echinopsis, lobivia, and trichocereus are very easy to grow. They tolerate a wide variety of growing conditions and abuse and with a little care will reward the owner with spectacular displays of flowers during the summer months. The photographs on this page will give you a general idea of the range of flower color and plant texture and shape. We have never seen a black or green echinopsis flower but other than these two colors the plants produce flowers in every color and shade and include many that are bi or tri colored. As an additional bonus many of the flowers are nicely scented when they first open.

As our web site expands we will provide specific "how to" directions for propagating these plants both from offsets/cuttings and seeds. This will enable you to develop your own unique hybrids. The progeny that you produce will allow you to increase the size of your collection for your own enjoyment and even have plants to share with your special friends!

Enjoy the images and yes, we have many of these plants available for sale. Click on any image on this page to show a larger image and text.
